Once again I was lucky enough to be able to attend WEG, this time in Kentucky during Sept/October 2010. It was lovely to see 5 days of the top dressage horses in the world, being a lover of the beautiful Trakehner breed, Totillas was breathtaking. However, I must say my overall favourite was the Spanish horse, Feugo XII. WOW! He went beautifully every time he stepped into the arena, it was lovely to watch. Then there was his showmanship in his freestyle – how to make dressage appeal to the masses.
WEG isn’t all about the competition… there is so much to learn from the trade stands and then also the shopping. What girl can resist the temptation, when at a horse event for 5 days, not to do some (or a lot) of retail therapy?
On the information side, there were many stands displaying equipment that can be used for Equine Rehabilitation – an area which I am very interested in and would like to investigate further. So many ideas swirling around in my head at the moment!
It wasn’t all fun… The International Equine Body Workers Association (IEBWA) of which I am the Australasian Chairperson had a stand in the WEG Equine Village. So I volunteered to do my stint on the stand and at the same time meet other Equine Body Workers from around the world. Visitors to the stand were able to find out about Equine Massage and how it can assist their horse, discuss their horse’s particular problems with qualified equine bodyworkers and luckily for the owner, they were able to have a quick demonstration massage of what their horse feels during a massage. I must say, this demonstration was very popular.
Working on the stand enabled me to chat with other Equine Body Workers and exchange thoughts/experiences. It is always beneficial when presented with these kinds of situations to jump on board and see what you can learn by picking others’ brains. I was also able to catch up with my Myofascial Release teacher Ruth Mitchell-Golladay.
Now it’s on to saving for WEG Normandy in 2014.
